Code § 203-2, adopted as Ord. No. 537 on September 12, 2006, gives a veteran entitled under C.G.S. 12-81(19), and a surviving spouse under 12-81(22), an additional exemption of up to $10,000 of assessed value under 12-81f, for income not more than $15,000 above the 12-81l amount. Ord. No. 604 of June 9, 2015 added the 12-81g(b) option for a veteran rated 100 percent, from the October 1, 2015 grand list. Code § 203-9 exempts a disabled veteran’s specially equipped vehicle. The assessor’s Additional Veterans information sheet, which is undated, gives the state additional exemption as 200 percent of the basic exemption, filed February 1 to October 1 every other year, with income limits of $43,800 single and $53,400 married, or $18,000 and $21,000 of adjusted gross income for a veteran rated 100 percent. Above those limits it points to the local option, at $58,800 and $68,400. Both pairs move each year with the state’s; ask the assessor for the current ones. On October 14, 2025 the Town Council voted 9 to 0 to adopt options 1, 2 and 4 of the assessor’s memos on the permanent and total exemption, with October 1, 2000 as the starting date for surviving spouses. The minutes record the assessor recommending the exemption for veterans rated totally disabled through individual unemployability (12-81pp), for the surviving spouse of a veteran who died before October 1, 2024 (12-81(83)(F)), and for up to two acres of land with the dwelling (12-81(83)(E)), and not recommending option 3, the cap at the median assessment. The memos themselves were not read.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
