What the court is. The District Court's page: "Instead of a traditional sentence and probation, you will enter a supervised, structured, treatment-based program designed to help you learn how to manage your mental health and substance use disorder treatment." Participants work through four phases with case managers, probation, treatment and testing; "Successful completion of WWCCC results in dismissal of the criminal charges." Its goals include treating "mental health and substance use disorders among nonviolent, misdemeanant offenders". The veterans' track. Walla Walla County has no separate veterans court; veterans go through Community Court with a mentor. The January 2026 referral packet asks "MILITARY VETERAN: Yes / No", and its participant agreement adds: "Participants who are military veterans must maintain regular contact with their mentor and attend monthly forums." The Veterans' Relief Advisory Board's Veterans Treatment Court committee supplies the mentors and staffs the cases on the first and third Thursdays; its minutes record three veterans enrolled in December 2025 (one in the Superior Court's ARC programme), graduations in May and on August 6, 2026, and no mentee in August 2026, with new mentors still sought. How to ask. A defence lawyer makes the referral with the court's packet. Judge Kristian Hedine; Community Court Coordinator Brady Edwards, 509-524-2767; June Riley, 509-522-2843; defence attorney Bryan Ponti, 509-525-5090. Hearings are on the first and third Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. To volunteer as a mentor, contact the Department of Community Health (509-524-2650).
