The exemption is the State's, under Code section 48-5-48; see the Georgia entry. In Walker County homestead applications go to the Tax Commissioner, and the Board of Assessors decides eligibility. The Tax Commissioner's list of exemptions: "(S5) Disabled Veterans Exemption. Must be 100% disabled-service connected. Letter from Veteran Affairs verifying disability. And "(SD) Disabled Veterans Exemption over 65: 100% exemption from State portion of taxes on home and up to 10 contiguous acres of land. Must meet requirements of S5 exemption." The surviving spouse of a service member killed in service has the same amount under code SS (section 48-5-52.1). Where the page is behind the law. Rating: unemployability paid at the 100% rate and the statutory awards for loss of limbs or sight also qualify; see the Georgia entry. Once granted, the exemption renews each year unless the owner moves or the ownership changes. Where.
