Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The rules are the State's; the Florida entry on discharge recording explains them. The Wakulla County Clerk's fee schedule (revised July 1, 2023) prices "Military discharge, Recording certificate of discharge from U.S. Armed Forces" at "N/C", beside the ordinary "10.00 first pg.; 8.50 each add'l pg." and $2 for a certified copy. Keeping it off the internet. The Official Records page prints the section 28.2221 notice: any person may ask the county recorder to remove from the public website an image of a military discharge; requests must be notarised and are made by mail or in person at 3056 Crawfordville Highway, Crawfordville, or by email to [email protected]. Taking it out of the record. The Clerk's forms page posts a "Veteran's Discharge Removal From the Official Record" request under section 295.186, which lets a veteran, widow or widower, attorney, personal representative, executor or court-appointed guardian have a recorded DD-214 (and the older discharge forms) removed, free. The form warns that removal "will be permanent and irreversible", so get a certified copy first. Its relationship boxes list self, widow or widower, attorney and personal representative only, and it offers online notarisation, though the statute also covers a court-appointed guardian and says the request "shall be made in person"; bring identification to the Official Records Department, Room 121 of the Wakulla County Courthouse. Clerk's office, 850-926-0300.
