Wakefield Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Wakefield’s fiscal 2027 taxpayer guide doubles the veteran exemptions, a range of $800 to $3,000 off the tax bill, what clause 22J at 100 per cent or section 5C½ at 100 per cent produces, and asks the assessors to confirm.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Wakefield.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Wakefield grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s Taxpayer Exemption Guide for fiscal 2027 prints, for veterans with a service-connected disability of at least 10 percent, between $800 and $3,000 off the tax bill, the statutory amounts doubled, beside 17D at $350 and 37A at $1,000, also doubled, and a senior line at $2,000 that no option named in the section produces from the statute’s $500. The guide names no option, so the entry asks the assessors to confirm. The Veterans’ Services page names David Mangan the Veteran Services Officer at 30 Converse Street (781-246-6377), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Wakefield Veterans’ Services: David Mangan, Veteran Services Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
