Volusia County Beaches: Free Beach Driving and Parking with a Disabled Veteran Plate
Volusia County waives its $30 daily beach driving fee, and off-beach parking fees in county lots, for a vehicle with a disabled veteran plate from Florida or any other state. Register the plate with ParkVolusia to use the automated ramps and avoid fines.
Also called: beach driving, beach access fee, ParkVolusia, DV plate, disabled veteran plate, Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, off-beach parking, 20-204.
Section 20-202 of the Volusia County Code charges $30 a day for a vehicle to drive onto the beach, and section 20-203 sells a $150 annual pass to non-residents (residents and property owners register free). Section 20-204(2) exempts "Vehicles having under the laws of this or any other state a disabled veterans (DV) license plate", as well as vehicles with wheelchair-symbol plates or permits.
In practice. The county says residents and visitors with disabled parking documentation, including Disabled Veteran plates, get no-cost beach driving, parking in county-owned off-beach lots and entry to the inlet parks. Register the plate with ParkVolusia, online or at a ParkVolusia office (24-hour line 386-260-1482): the automated ramps and lot cameras read plates, and lot kiosks cannot waive the fee, though a fine issued to a DV plate is waived on proof. Municipal lots in Daytona Beach set their own fees.
A veteran without a DV plate pays the ordinary fees; the plate itself is a State benefit (see the Florida entry), and section 316.1964 exempts it from fees in metered spaces and timed county lots statewide.
