Vigo County's Veteran's Assistance Office, Tim Cunningham, 163 Oak Street, Terre Haute, 8AM to noon and 1 to 4PM weekdays (812-462-3261, fax 812-231-5646), helps veterans and their spouses and dependent children find military records and file pension, compensation, burial, GI Bill, home-loan and property-tax-exemption claims, and runs free van transportation for veterans to the Indianapolis VA (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) and the Danville VA (Monday and Wednesday).

The county's office: "The Vigo County Veteran's Assistance office assists all veterans in finding military records. They assist with the filing of claims for benefits for pension and service connected disabilities (compensation). For your convenience there is now a downloadable claim form on the website ... You will also find the form to request a DD214 (discharge). They also assist spouses and dependent children of veterans in filing claims for benefits and educational allowances." The department's Document Center carries the SF 180 ("Request Pertaining to Military Records") and a Federal Benefits Booklet.
The vans. "There is free van transportation (for veterans) to medical appointments at the Indianapolis VA Hospital. The van to Indianapolis goes on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There is also a van to the Danville VA Hospital which runs on Monday and Wednesday's only. Call 812-462-3261 for information and to schedule a ride."
