Vernon Parish Assessor: Disabled Veteran Exemption and Special Assessment Level
The Vernon Parish Assessor, 301 East Courthouse Street, Leesville (337-239-2167), takes the disabled veteran additional homestead exemption for a veteran rated 50 percent or more (or the surviving spouse) and the disabled veterans value freeze, each on a Form A25 signed by the parish veterans office; its page prints a $150,000 income limit for the freeze that the State's own entry calls a pending change.
Also called: property tax, assessor, homestead exemption, special assessment level, value freeze, Form A25, veteran exemption, Michael Bealer, 337-239-2167, Leesville, New Llano, Anacoco, Rosepine, Hornbeck, Simpson, Fort Polk, Pitkin.
The exemption and the freeze are the State's, under La. Const. art. VII, sections 21 and 18, as the State entries explain. The Vernon Parish Assessor, Michael Bealer, publishes the routes and documents on its Exemptions page.
The routes, in the Assessor's words. "Disabled Veterans Additional Homestead Exemption. Owner of the home must be a veteran with a 50% or higher service-connected disability rating, or the surviving spouse of a veteran with a 50% or higher service-connected disability rating. You must make an appointment with the Veteran's Affairs Office to receive a signed A25 form. The VA's office can be reached at 337-238-6401. Required Documents: Signed A25 Form from the VA's Office, Driver's License or Birth Certificate." "Disabled Veterans Value Freeze. Owner of the home must have a service-connected disability with a 50% or higher disability rating. Adjusted Gross Income, combined for all owners, cannot exceed $150,000 for that current year. Required Documents: Signed A25 Form from the VA's Office, Driver's License or Birth Certificate, Federal Tax Return." Apply in person with the documents.
The income figure. The State entry gives the freeze's income cap as $100,000, indexed by the Consumer Price Index from tax year 2026 (St. Tammany's assessor prints $102,700 for 2026), and describes the $150,000 cap as a proposed constitutional amendment (Acts 2025, No. 220) effective only on ratification. A Vernon homeowner with income between those figures should ask the Assessor which applies before relying on the page.
The homestead itself. A homestead exemption in Louisiana exempts the first $75,000 of market value on a primary residence; the additional veteran exemption is on top of it, in the tiers the State entry sets out.
