Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The Valley County Veterans Service Office is at 129 S. 15th Street, Suite 105, Ord, NE 68862 (the State's directory, updated October 26, 2026; the county's page gives 125 S. 15th Street), phone (308) 728-5470, fax (308) 728-5698, [email protected], open Wednesdays and Thursdays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Veterans Service Officer is Dale Beethe, with administrative assistant Sheree Brown. The county's page says the office "assists veterans and their dependents in obtaining information about any V.A. benefits", works up the applications and supporting documents and helps veterans apply for VA medical center eligibility. Its County Benefits page lists county veterans aid (see that entry), a bronze grave flag holder (inventoried each year and replaced when damaged), registration of DD-214s, homestead help, grave registration with a Presidential Memorial Certificate for the family of every deceased county veteran, and benefits counselling; its closing line, "Phone us at (308) 425-3202 or (308) 995-4166", gives the Franklin and Phelps County offices' numbers, not Valley County's. The County Clerk records a DD-214 brought to the office (see the Nebraska entry on the Discharge Record). Homestead certification. The Assessor's homestead FAQ, under "How do I qualify as a Disabled Veteran or their Widow?", lists the exemptions for a veteran totally disabled by a non-service-connected illness or accident, each "(annual certification required)", and sends the veteran to the Veterans Service Office first for a physician's form and the office's certification. The application under section 77-3508 is annual, but 77-3508(1)(c) says the medical certification need not be repeated when the condition has not changed, though the assessor may ask for it again (see the Nebraska entries). The Board's year. The Board renewed the office's annual Tyler Technologies subscription on September 9, 2025 and approved the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs' memorandum of understanding on January 27, 2026. Since December 2025 the county has named a Veteran of the Month with a display in the courthouse lobby: Gerald John in January, Mike Pesek in February and Bob Stowell in March 2026, when the Board talked of a quarterly recognition event. It lit the courthouse and the Wozab gazebo green for veterans from November 4 to 11, 2025 (October 14, 2025), heard from the Veteran's Memorial group on January 27, 2026 and from its Building and Grounds committee on a Veteran's Wall on July 14, 2026, and on September 29, 2026 voted that Veterans Services submit a monthly report. The county's Wozab grants have gone to veterans' memorials too: $1,945 to the Loup Valley Veteran's Memorial and $3,250 to the Ord Veteran's Memorial (March 11, 2025), and $3,000 to the Loup Valley Veterans Memorial and $2,000 to the Arcadia Veterans' Memorial Garden (March 10, 2026). The money. The office spent $27,795.19 in 2023-2024 and $31,074.07 in 2024-2025, and the filed 2025-2026 budget gives it $38,491, the officer's $16,931 salary and $14,560 of administrative salary among it.
