Valencia County Assessor: Veteran and Disabled Veteran Tax Exemption Applications
The Valencia County Assessor (Celia Dittmaier) takes the State's veteran and disabled veteran property tax exemption applications on the Department of Veterans' Services' DVS Form 1, posts the Taxation and Revenue Department's bulletin on the 2024 constitutional amendments, and notes the exemption deadline on its forms page; 444 Luna Avenue, Los Lunas, 505-866-2065.
Also called: property tax, assessor, veteran exemption, disabled veteran exemption, DVS Form 1, HJR-5, HJR-6, $10,000, Celia Dittmaier, 505-866-2065, Los Lunas, Belen, Peralta, Los Chaves, Rio Communities.
The Assessor's forms page lists, among its exemption applications, the "Veterans Application for Tax Exemption (PDF)" and a "2024 Veteran Property Tax Constitutional Amendments" bulletin, and notes "Exemption deadline is May 30th 2025" beside its 2026 exemption applications - the county-side working of the State's programmes.
The application the office takes is the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services' DVS Form 1 (Revised July 2021), "Application For Veteran Tax Exemption and Disabled Veteran Tax Exemption", marked for "o VETERAN TAX EXEMPTION o DISABLED VETERAN TAX EXEMPTION", with blocks for the veteran, the applicant, the disability rating (for the disabled exemption) and the surviving spouse. The county posts it directly.
The bulletin the office posts is the Taxation and Revenue Department's B-500.41 (rev. 11/2024): HJR-5 "propose[d] an amendment to the New Mexico Constitution to increase the Veteran's property tax exemption for honorably discharged members of the armed forces and their widows and widowers from $4,000 to $10,000. The amount after 2024 will then be adjusted for inflation." HJR-6 "propose[d] ... to extend the current property tax exemption for 100% disabled veterans and their widows and widowers to veterans with less than 100% disability and their widows and widowers, basing the amount of the exemption on a Veteran's federal disability rating as determined by federal law." The amounts, rating bands and certification are the New Mexico entries'.

Rule
Disabled veteran exemption, in proportion to the rating
A permanent service-connected rating; the share of the home's taxable value exempt equals the rating, after the $10,000 exemption. The county takes the application on the DVS certification; its forms page posts the bulletin describing the 2024 amendments.
Or the $10,000 veteran exemption
The 7-37-5 exemption needs qualifying service and an honourable discharge, not a rating; an unmarried surviving spouse may claim it.
