Upton Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Upton’s assessors post the Commonwealth’s fillable Form 96-4 with no amount of the town’s own, so this entry gives the statute’s; its Veterans’ Agent is the town’s own Patrick Morris, whose Senior & Veterans’ Property Tax Work-Off Abatement gives veterans of any age up to $2,000 with eligibility the Veterans’ Agent sets.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Upton.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Upton grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Bill Taylor the chair (term ends 2028), William Bonina (2027) and Valerie Leonardo (2029) the members, Leonardo the Principal Assessor, and gives the office at 1 Main Street (508-529-1002, [email protected]), meeting the first Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m., printing the FY2026 tax rate of $13.08. The department’s Seniors & Veterans Tax Relief page posts the Commonwealth’s fillable "Clause 22 Veterans Exemption Fillable State Tax Form 96-4" (revised 12/2022, its fiscal-year line 2026) beside senior exemption guides and an application checklist, and no amount of the town’s own and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J appears on the site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Veterans Services / Veterans Graves page names Patrick Morris the Veteran’s Agent (508-529-6723, fax 508-529-1010, mailing Box 15) at Town Hall - the officer the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Upton row lists at "Town Hall, Room G 03" on "One Main Street, Suite 15" on the same 508-529-6723 ([email protected]). The town’s Senior & Veterans’ Property Tax Work-Off Abatement, run through the Council on Aging, is for "Seniors and Veterans who meet the requirements to work and earn money to be used to pay their real estate taxes each year": for a veteran "there is no age requirement" beyond owning and residing at the property, "eligibility will be determined by the Veterans’ Agent", a spouse of a deceased or service-disabled veteran may volunteer in the veteran’s place, and "the maximum amount a Veteran taxpayer may earn is $2,000 for Fiscal Year 2025" - the section 5N work-off it is, though the page names neither section; the senior maximum is the same $2,000, and the Council on Aging Director’s line is 508-529-4558. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Upton Veterans Services / Veterans Graves: Patrick Morris, Veteran’s Agent. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
