Travis County Veterans Services is the county's veterans county service office under Government Code section 434.032; see the Texas entry. The Commissioners Court created it on March 22, 1944.
What it does. Its staff, all veterans and accredited by VA, prepare, file and present VA and State benefit claims and appeals, and refer veterans for medical and mental health care, housing, education and financial help. Services are always free. The office has coordinators for women veterans and for LGBTQ+ veterans, and offers notary services.
Appointments. The office takes clients by appointment only, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in person or by video or phone; book with the online form or on 512-854-9340. It is at 5325 Airport Boulevard, Austin 78751 (mail to P.O. Box 1748, Austin 78767). Travis County employees can also book video appointments from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Thursday. For a VA deadline within 30 days, the office says to contact VA directly as well.
For a first claim bring the DD-214 or other discharge, and for a survivor's claim the marriage certificate, the death certificate and children's birth certificates. The office's How to Apply page still carries pandemic-era wording on masks and walk-ins; its home page says appointment only.
