Travis County Parks charges no day use fee to "U.S. Veterans with 50% or more, service-related disability". The parks' fee tables list "Day Use for Disabled Veteran (50%+ disabled): No Charge" at each park, against $5 a person at the lake parks and $8 at Hamilton Pool Preserve and Hippie Hollow, and waive the $7 daily trailer fee for disabled veterans.
The permit. The Lifetime Disabled Veteran Permit costs nothing and covers day use during posted hours for life. It can be had at most park entry booths, but Hamilton Pool and Hippie Hollow no longer sell permits. Unlike the $80 annual permit, the parks do not say it needs proof of Travis County residency, so bring the VA letter showing the rating. The parks' FAQ calls it an "annual pass" in one answer; the permits page says it is for life.
Hamilton Pool. Day use there is free for the veteran, but the preserve needs a reservation made online in advance, at $12 a vehicle, and the waiver does not cover that.
Camping and other fees are not waived, and the parks say they give no discount to active-duty members. Parks main office: 512-854-PARK.
