Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county budgets. Thayer County has no Veterans Aid fund among its budget funds. Its miscellaneous general budget (0100-970) carries a $1,500.00 "Veterans Aid" line, which spent nothing in 2023-2024 or 2024-2025 and is adopted again for 2025-2026. The Board's minutes list no claims, so its payments since are unread. Who qualifies. The county's page names the State's Veterans Aid Fund but publishes no county aid page or test. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, 402-768-7223, Wednesday or Thursday (see that entry); see the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
