Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Tewksbury grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s Office exemptions table gives “Veterans with Service Connected Disability of 10% or more, Veterans Awarded Purple Heart” $600 under clause 22, “Veterans with loss of one foot, hand or eye, Veterans who received one of a select few awards” $750 under 22A, and “Veterans with Service Connected Disability of 100 Percent” $1,000 under 22E, with the spouses of personnel missing or killed in active duty under 22D listed as varying. The $600 is one and a half times the statute’s $400 while the others are the statute itself; the page names no local option, and no town meeting vote was found in the town’s online records, so ask the assessors what produced the $600. The same table gives $500 under 17D, $1,000 under 41C and $500 under 37A. Applications are accepted only from July 1 through April 1 of each fiscal year. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Tewksbury Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
