Teller County Assessor: the Veteran with a Disability Exemption Route

The Teller County Assessor takes the State's veteran with a disability exemption - 50 percent of the first $200,000 of actual value on the qualified primary residence - on its Tax Exemptions for Seniors / Veterans / Gold Star Spouses page, which names the 100 percent permanent rating, the 2025 addition of individual unemployability, surviving-spouse and Gold Star routes, and posts the 2026 forms and instructions.

Also called: property tax, assessor, disabled veteran exemption, veteran with a disability, Gold Star spouse, individual unemployability, surviving spouse, 39-3-167, 39-3-203, Cripple Creek, Woodland Park, Cripple Creek, Victor, Woodland Park, Divide, Florissant, Green Mountain Falls, Crystola.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; see the Colorado entry on the veteran with a disability exemption and the 2027 deadline move. The county's part is the Assessor's. What the Assessor's page says. "Veterans with a disability are entitled to an exemption equal to 50% of the first $200,000 of actual value of the qualified applicant's primary residence." The qualified veteran "sustained a service-connected disability while serving on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States. This includes members of the National Guard and Reserves who sustained their injury during a period in which they were called to active duty"; "was honorably discharged"; and "was rated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs as one hundred percent permanent disability through disability retirement benefits. In 2025, applicants who do not have a 100% disability rating but have been awarded individual unemployment status as determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs are also eligible for the program." The veteran "must own the property and must have been an owner of record since January 1 of the year of application", and a spouse-owned property qualifies if the couple was married on or before January 1 and both have occupied it as their primary residence since January 1. A note carries the statutory funding caveat: "The General Assembly may eliminate the funding for the Senior Citizen Exemption or Veteran with a disability Exemption in any year in which the budget does not allow for the reimbursement." Surviving spouses and Gold Star families. The page carries the surviving-spouse route for the spouse of a veteran who received the exemption and passed away, with its own 2026 form and instructions; and Amendment E's Gold Star spouse route - "a homeowner who is the surviving spouse of either a military service member who died in the line of duty or a veteran whose death resulted from a service-related injury or disease", qualified under federal law and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, with the VA Benefits Summary letter or a Department of Defense letter as documentation, and no remarriage. How to apply. The 2026 Disabled Veterans Form and 2026 Disabled Veterans Instructions PDFs sit on the page, beside the senior, surviving-spouse and Gold Star forms. The page names no separate county deadline, so the State's dates govern: 2026 claims ran on July 1, and from January 1, 2027 the deadline is July 15 (Senate Bill 26-046). Where. Assessor's Office, Teller County Centennial Building, 112 North A Street, Cripple Creek, CO 80813.
