There is no fee or cost for submitting an application for VA benefits. Our services are also free of charge." The office promises "a clear, complete and accurate explanation of the process of applying for veteran's benefits and services". Who and when. Terrence Allen, CVSO, Veterans Services Officer; 386-688-6085; [email protected]. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; "Tuesdays & Thursdays are walk-ins, all other days are available by appointment only", and appointments are encouraged for office visits. The page gives no street address, and in January 2026 the county administrator told the Board the office might move, so call before going. Mr. Allen, a Navy veteran, was introduced to the Board on February 17, 2026; the county's posting for the job required an officer who is a veteran with at least 18 months of active duty, separated under honorable conditions, or the surviving spouse of one, trained by the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs within six months of hire. Flag disposal. With Parks and Recreation the office runs a free Flag Disposal Box for retired American flags at the Veterans Park on the corner of Pine Avenue and Howard Street (US 90) in Live Oak. Hiring preference. The officer also verifies the documents on the county's own Veterans' Preference Form and is a named route for a preference complaint; see the Suwannee County preference entry.
