Sutton Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Sutton’s Exemptions page prints the veterans’ statutes doubled - $800 under clause 22, $3,000 under 22C and $2,000 under 22E, full under 22D and 22H - beside 17D and 41C left at the statutes, what clause 22J at 100 per cent produces, naming no option, so this entry asks the assessors.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Sutton.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Sutton grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors’ page names Tracey Tardy the Principal Assessor, Robert Nunnemacher the Assessor and chair (term 2029) and Matthew Read the Assessor (2027), with Linda Hicks the Assistant Assessor, at 4 Uxbridge Road (508-865-8722, fax 508-865-8721), the board meeting Tuesday evenings in the Assessors’ Office. The department’s Exemptions page, headed "FISCAL YEAR 2027: JULY 1, 2026 - JUNE 30, 2027", prints clause 22 at $800 - "Clause 22 allows for a $800.00 tax exemption for the following persons: 10% (or more) service-connected disabled veteran; Purple Heart recipient; Gold Star mothers and fathers; Spouse of veteran entitled under Clause 22; Surviving spouses who do not remarry" - clause 22C at $3,000, clause 22D full and clause 22E at $2,000 on an annual VA certificate, beside clause 22H full, 17D at $350 and 41C at $1,500, the statutes. The veterans’ figures are the statutes doubled - what clause 22J at 100 per cent produces - and the page names no option; no acceptance was found on the town’s site, so the entry asks the assessors which the town has accepted. No 22A or 22B line is printed. The Veterans’ Services page says Sutton is part of the Blackstone Valley Veterans’ Services District "along with Douglas, Millbury, Nortthbridge and Uxbridge" - the page’s own spelling - and lists its services as VA claims and assistance, VA healthcare applications, "MA State Veterans Assistance (Chapter 115)", pension, educational benefits, home loans and grave marker requests, with Carl Bradshaw, LTC (R), the District Director and Annmarie Cleary the Assistant Director and Veterans’ Agent, at 21 South Main Street, Uxbridge (508-278-8600, extension 2037) - the office the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists on the Sutton row with the district’s extensions 2037 and 2017, its rows for Douglas, Millbury and Northbridge naming the same office. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Blackstone Valley Veterans’ Services District: Carl Bradshaw, District Director. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
