Sumter County Clerk: Recorded Discharges and Their Removal

The Sumter County Clerk records certificates of military discharge among its official records, and, on the form Florida gives veterans, can remove a veteran's discharge papers from the public record.

Also called: DD-214, DD214, clerk, discharge papers, removal, public record, Bushnell.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The rules are the State's; the Florida entry on discharge recording explains them. The Sumter County Clerk's official-records page lists "certificates of military discharge" among the documents it records, and explains: "...in accordance with Florida Statute, Military Veterans were given the option to have their Military Discharge Papers removed from the Public Record. In order to have the process completed, parties must complete the following form in the presence of a Deputy Clerk of Sumter County" - the page's Military Discharge Removal form. The fee index fetched names no DD-214 line (the fee calculator is a JavaScript application), so ask the Clerk; under Florida law the recording itself is free.
