The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency is the county agency every New York county must keep under Veterans' Services Law 14; see the New York entry on local veterans' service agencies. "The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency is here to provide entitlement information and advocacy assistance to military personnel, to military veterans, and their dependents in matters related to federal, state and local benefits. We are not part of the Department of Veterans Affairs; we are a County agency dedicated to serving veterans and their families." Newly discharged. The agency's four steps: secure the DD-214, enrol in VA health care within the first 12 months, visit the agency with the DD-214, medical records, bank and dependant details, and, if the DD-214 is missing, "stop by our office, we can help you create your 'veterans portfolio' of essential documents for safekeeping." What it did this year. The director's monthly reports to the Legislature's Veterans Committee record the work: accredited service officers winning caregiver support, pension, dependency and indemnity compensation and toxic-exposure claims; staff who kept five veterans' families out of temporary housing by securing retroactive VA pay; help with State Veterans Home admissions; 208 to 252 contacts and 18 to 27 applications a month in mid-2026; and outreach at food distributions and the August 8, 2026 Vet Fest and Stand Down.
