Mo. Rev. Stat. 59.480 makes the recording of a discharge free and limits who may see or copy it; see the Missouri entry. The Recorder's site lists among the office's duties "File and maintain Military Discharge documents", and its fee schedule prices a standard document at $26 for the first page and $3 for each other page and lists "Military Discharge" at "No Charge" (its "Federal Tax Lien Discharge $7.50" is a tax lien release, not a military discharge). Its formatting standards list "Military separation papers" among the documents exempt from the formatting rules, so no $25 non-standard fee applies. Copies. The site's Military Discharge page says: "Military discharges recorded with the Missouri Recorders of Deeds are restricted from public search. They are not available for genealogy or other research purposes. A copy of military discharges may be made only for the veteran, surviving spouse, and certain third parties as defined by state law. A copy of military discharges are provided to a veteran or surviving spouse at no cost." The requester must show a driver's licence or identification card whose name and address match the mailing address on the copy request form. The office cannot provide copies of discharges recorded in other counties. The page says to complete "the form below" and return it by email, mail or in person, but no form is linked, so ask the office for it. Where.
