Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project is named for Private First Class Joseph Dwyer of Mount Sinai, an Iraq veteran. It began in Suffolk in 2012 as a pilot between the Suffolk County United Veterans programme and the County Veterans Service Agency, and the State has since funded it across New York. How it works here. The Association for Mental Health and Wellness runs the project in partnership with the Veterans Service Agency. Its support groups are led by veteran peers, and it offers confidential one-on-one peer support for veterans dealing with PTSD, traumatic brain injury and the move back to civilian life. It also runs a veterans food pantry every Tuesday, 9 a.m. to noon, at Charlotte's Table, 939 Johnson Avenue, Ronkonkoma (entrance at the back), and recruits volunteers to help veterans with transport, chores and company. Contact. 631-853-8345 or [email protected]. A number to update. The project's website still lists the Veterans Crisis Line as 1-800-273-8355; the line is reached by dialling 988 and pressing 1, as the County's resource guide says.
