Sturbridge Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Sturbridge’s Exemptions page names the disabled-veteran category without an amount and sends readers to the assessors’ office for qualifications, so this entry gives the statute’s.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Sturbridge.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Sturbridge grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s page names Ann P. Murphy the Principal Assessor and Liza Peters her assistant at 308 Main Street (508-347-2503). The Exemptions page counts "Disabled Veteran" among the categories exempted and says the fiscal year’s qualifications for exemptions "can be found by calling the Assessors’ Office", with no amount of the town’s own on any page and an April 1 filing deadline; no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the town’s site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Veterans’ Services page names Garrett Skinner the Veterans’ Service Officer at the Senior Center, 480 Main Street, Room 222 (774-304-1409), part-time by appointment, where the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists the same office with the Barre office’s phone and e-mail (978-355-2504, [email protected]); ask the town to confirm its direct line. The page’s Veteran Service Organizations list names Champeau-Vilandre American Legion Post 109, its Auxiliary Unit 109, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 109 and AMVETS Post 109 as the town’s own. The Council on Aging’s Senior/Veterans Work-Off Guidelines for 2026-2027 admit homeowners 60 and older only, so they are not the veterans’ work-off. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Sturbridge Veterans’ Services: Garrett Skinner, Veterans’ Service Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
