Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Stratford’s Veterans’ Exemptions page gives the basic veterans’ exemption as $4,500 off assessment for a wartime veteran or a veteran with a VA rating, on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk by September 30. A veteran receiving the basic exemption whose income is not more than $46,300 single or $56,500 married, counting adjusted gross income plus Social Security, has it doubled to $9,000 under C.G.S. 12-81g; applications run February 1 to September 30 and refile biennially. The page’s Local Additional Veterans’ Exemption under C.G.S. 12-81f is a sliding scale of $1,000 to $10,000 off assessment, for income up to $76,483 single or $86,352 married, filed February 1 to September 1 per the page’s table and refiled biennially. Stratford’s code is on eCode360, which blocked the section pages, so this option rests on the page. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Stratford as offering the 12-81g(b) option for a veteran rated 100 percent and the 12-81h vehicle option; the page does not mention either. Ask the assessor. From the grand list of October 1, 2024 a veteran with a 100 percent service-connected permanent and total rating has the dwelling, or one motor vehicle, exempt under 12-81(83), applying annually by January 1 with the state D-2 form, photo identification, a VA summary of benefits letter and the DD-214 on the land records. In October 2025 the Town Council enacted the local option of including not more than two acres of land in the exemption total, under P.A. 25-168. The page also gives the active-duty serviceman’s exemption of one motor vehicle, applied for by December 31.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
