Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Stamford’s assessor page lists the standard veterans’ exemption under C.G.S. 12-81(19) as a $3,000 assessment reduction on real estate or a motor vehicle, the disability exemption by rating with VA proof by March 31, and for a veteran rated permanently and totally disabled at 100 percent the dwelling of the primary residence, or one vehicle, under 12-81(83), claimed on form D-2 by January 1 each year. Discharge papers go to the Town Clerk by September 30. The page gives the city’s local additional exemption as $20,000 off assessment, for a veteran entitled to the standard or disability exemption with income up to $100,000 single or $120,000 married, filed from February 1 to October 1 and every two years. Code § 220-13, as Municode’s Supplement 72 prints it with amendments through Ord. No. 1150 of November 13, 2012, sets the same income limits but an exemption of $10,000, and up to $5,000 for a surviving spouse. The city’s application form, which cites Ordinance No. 1030, names no amount. Ask the assessor which figure applies. Ordinance No. 1323, adopted by the Board of Representatives on November 5, 2025 and codified as § 220-16.5, added two exemptions. From the October 1, 2025 grand list a veteran VA rates totally disabled through individual unemployability gets the dwelling, or one vehicle, exempt under 12-81pp in place of the 12-81(20) exemption. From the October 1, 2026 grand list a veteran ineligible for the 12-81(19) to (21) exemptions gets $5,000 off assessment under 12-81jj, with an income limit the page gives as $100,000 single or $120,000 married. Stamford did not answer OLR’s 2023 survey.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
