Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Stafford uses the local option in Code of Virginia section 58.1-3506(A)(19). The Treasurer's rate table, updated May 4, 2026, taxes one motor vehicle owned and regularly used by a veteran in that class at $0.0001 per $100 of assessed value, against $5.72 for tangible personal property generally. The table prints the statute's words exactly: a veteran who has lost, or lost the use of, one or both legs, or an arm or a hand, or who is blind, or who is permanently and totally disabled as certified by the Department of Veterans Services, with a written statement from that department that the disability is service-connected. Limb loss or blindness qualifies at any rating. A veteran rated 100% permanent and total uses the statewide exemption on one vehicle and can put this rate on another.
