Stafford County Real Estate Tax Relief for Total Disability

Stafford relieves up to $3,500 of real estate tax on the home and one acre for a totally disabled owner with income under $40,000, fully below $35,000.

Also called: tax relief, property tax, elderly and disabled, income limit.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Stafford's relief for owners who are 65 or older, or totally disabled, as of January 1 of the tax year covers the house and up to one acre, up to $3,500 of tax. It is not a VA rating of 100% service-connected, and a disabled veteran who does not meet that test can use it. Income from all sources below $35,000, with net worth up to $400,000, gets full relief. Income from $35,001 to $40,000, with net worth up to $200,000, gets 50%. Income includes both spouses' income; the first $10,000 of a relative's income is excluded, and a totally disabled applicant may deduct $10,000. Net worth excludes the home and up to 20 acres, but relief applies only to the home and one acre.
