Stafford Local Additional Veterans’ Exemption and Dwelling Exemptions

Stafford’s own local additional veteran application gives $10,000 to a veteran or spouse with income not more than $25,000 above the state limit, and the assessor’s forms carry the D-2 dwelling application and a handicapped equipped-vehicle form; OLR’s 2023 survey also records the 12-81kk primary-residence option.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Stafford.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s “2025 Local Additional Veteran Application”, on OPM’s form for the local option, gives the town’s own additional exemption: $10,000, for total income of not more than $70,200 single and $80,100 married - the state’s 12-81l amounts for the 2025 grand list plus $25,000, so the limit moves with the state’s each year. Veterans’ disability payments are not counted as income. The filing period is February 1 through October 1. The same page carries a D-2 application for the 12-81(83) dwelling exemption for a veteran rated permanently and totally disabled at 100 percent, an additional veteran exemption application on OPM’s M-59a, and a handicapped equipped vehicle exemption form. OLR’s 2023 survey lists Stafford among the towns offering the 12-81kk primary-residence exemption, 10 percent of the assessed value of the dwelling of a veteran with federal adjusted gross income of $50,100 or less, and among those exempting a specially equipped vehicle of a veteran eligible under 12-81. The wartime exemption itself is $1,000 of assessed value under C.G.S. 12-81(19); the additional exemption of 12-81g(a) doubles it for income under the 12-81l limit, $46,300 single and $56,500 married for the 2026 grand list.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
