St. Lucie County Veteran Services provides free transportation for veterans with scheduled medical appointments to and from the Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, for veterans who have no other way to travel or can no longer drive.
The ride. One county van now serves both pickup locations before driving to the medical center, so expect slight timing changes and arrive a few minutes early. Rides are for confirmed VA appointments between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. The van leaves West Palm Beach no later than 12:30 p.m. for the return trip, and may leave earlier once every rider has finished.
Reserving. Call Veteran Services at 772-337-5670; reservations are required and can be made up to three weeks ahead of a confirmed appointment. Seating is limited, and walk-up riders are no longer guaranteed a seat; if the van is full you may be asked to wait for the next trip.
Pickups. Fort Pierce, 6:15 a.m. at the Roger E. Poitras Administration Annex, 2300 Virginia Avenue, parking behind the building on the 23rd Street side; then St. Lucie West, 6:30 a.m. at the South County Annex, 250 NW Country Club Drive, Port St. Lucie, in the lot in front of the South County Courthouse building.
All county veteran vehicles are monitored by video cameras with audio at all times. A veteran who lives in another county is directed to that county's Veteran Service Office for its own transportation.
