Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

This is how Spotsylvania County applies the statewide disabled-veteran real estate exemption. The Commissioner of the Revenue takes one application for both the real estate exemption and the statewide one-vehicle exemption, on paper or online with uploaded documents. It is a one-time filing unless the principal residence changes. There is no income test. The exemption covers the principal residence and up to one acre. The county asks for the VA Benefit Summary Letter stating a 100% service-connected, permanent, and total disability, and one proof of residency: a Virginia driver's license, voter registration card, or DMV photo ID. A surviving spouse qualifies when the veteran died on or after January 1, 2011 and the spouse has not remarried.
