Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; the Washington entry explains it. The Spokane County Assessor administers it by mail application: Spokane County Assessor, Exemptions, 1116 W. Broadway Avenue, Spokane 99260-0010; 509-477-3698, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. What the Assessor posts, as of October 2, 2026. Application packets for 2023 to 2026; the "2026 Senior Exemption Application Packet" (dated January 2026) is for taxes collected in 2026, on 2025 income under $50,000, and asks for "an 80% service-connected evaluation or compensated at 100% rate". That was the law for 2026 collections. The brochure it posts as "2026" is the Department of Revenue's of December 2024, with the same 80% test, and the income table it links is for 2024 to 2026. What applies to 2027 taxes. RCW 84.36.381 as amended by chapter 200, Laws of 2025 qualifies a veteran with a combined service-connected evaluation of 40% or more, or "a total disability rating for a service-connected disability without regard to evaluation percent", for taxes collected in 2027 and after; the second route reaches individual unemployability at any schedular rating. For Spokane County the Department of Revenue's 2027 to 2029 thresholds are $56,000 (threshold 1), $65,000 (threshold 2) and $74,000 (threshold 3), with $83,136 for the deferral programme, and chapter 163, Laws of 2026 takes Combat-Related Special Compensation out of the income counted. Those taxes turn on the veteran's rating and income in 2026; a veteran rated 40% to 70% should ask the Assessor for the 2027 application when it is posted rather than rely on the 2026 packet's checkbox.
