Spencer Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Spencer’s "Are You Eligible for a Lower Tax Bill" sheet prints the statutes’ $750 under 41C, $175 under 17D and $500 under 37A and says of clause 22 only that "this amount varies", so this entry gives the statute’s.

The Town of Spencer grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Elaine Jaquith, Nancy Herholz and Pam Woodbury the three elected members, with Linda LeBlanc, M.A.A. the Principal Assessor (508-885-7500, extension 121) and Sarah Chase, M.A.A. the Senior Clerk, at 157 Main Street (508-885-7500, extension 165, fax 508-885-7512). The assessors’ Exemptions page posts applications only, and the department’s "Are You Eligible for a Lower Tax Bill" sheet for fiscal 2027 prints $750 under 41C, $175 under 17D and $500 under 37A - the statutes - beside "Clause 22 - Veteran (This amount varies)": no amount of the town’s own, the veteran application the Commonwealth’s Form 96-4, and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J found on the town’s site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Veterans Agent page names Scott Connor the Veteran Services Officer at 157 Main Street (508-885-7500, extension 115, fax 508-885-5194), Monday and Tuesday 9 am to 2 pm and Thursday 9 am to noon, where the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists the same officer with the same number ([email protected]). The directory’s East Brookfield row lists Connor at the same 157 Main Street office and its Paxton row at 899 Pleasant Street, Spencer (508-755-1477). Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Spencer Veterans Agent: Scott Connor, Veteran Services Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.
