Spartanburg County Auditor: Homestead Exemption

The Spartanburg County Auditor provides the State's Homestead Tax Exemption for the disabled and senior citizens; its page names the ordinary tests - age 65, or totally and permanently disabled by the state or federal agency with authority, or legally blind - and no veteran-specific route, so a disabled veteran goes through the State exemption described in the South Carolina entries.

Also called: property tax, auditor, homestead exemption, 12-37-250, age 65, blind, disabled, Spartanburg.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

South Carolina's ordinary homestead exemption is section 12-37-250; the State entry explains it. The Spartanburg County Auditor's page describes the county's administration: the Auditor is "an elected official [who] maintains records on all County real estate and personal property assessed valuations and computes the millage rate ... Provides Homestead Exemption for the disabled and the senior citizens of the County", and its homestead page qualifies anyone "declared totally and permanently disabled by the state or federal agency having the authority to make such a declaration, or ... legally blind as certified by a licensed ophthalmologist". What is not there. No veteran-specific exemption page exists on the county site, so a 100% totally and permanently disabled veteran claims the State's disabled veteran exemption through the Department of Revenue with the county VA officer's certificate (see the South Carolina entries); the county pages fetched name no DD-214 practice either.
