Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The State's disabled-veteran homestead exemptions (O.C.G.A. 48-5-48.3, 48-5-48.4 and 48-5-48.5; see the Georgia entries) are granted by the county Tax Commissioner. Spalding's own sheet - the Tax Commissioner's "Homestead Exemption Required Documentation Checklist" and 2026 Homestead Information, posted as an image scan at spaldingcountytaxga.com and read by OCR - carries an "ATTENTION VETERANS ONLY" block: "Veterans who are classified as 100% Permanently and Totally Disabled or who qualify for benefits as a 100% Disabled Veteran may be eligible for additional exemptions. Please contact the Spalding County Tax Commissioner's Office at 770-467-4360 for eligibility requirements and filing instructions." The amounts and the annual income test are the State's; the sheet prints them only for the ordinary S1 homestead ("ANY AGE / NO INCOME REQUIREMENT: Amounts deducted from Assessed Value (40% FMV): State-$2,000; County-$2,000; School-$2,000") and a House Bill 758 school-district exemption for owners 65 and older. How to apply. The Tax Commissioner's home page set the 2026 homestead application window June 5 through July 23, 2026 (the same dates as the 45-day appeal period after assessment notices mailed); bring the sheet's income documentation, a valid photo ID for applicant and spouse showing the property address, and prior-year income for the whole household. Office: 411 E. Solomon Street, P.O. Box 509, Griffin, GA 30224; (770) 467-4360; clerks Samantha, Angela, Tonya or LaQuita; Tax Commissioner Sylvia W. Hollums, who presented the county's 2026 tax bills to the board on October 19, 2026, and Chief Deputy Lynn C. Payton.
