Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Southington’s page gives the basic veterans’ exemption under C.G.S. 12-81(19) as $3,000 off the assessed value of real estate or a motor vehicle, leased vehicles included, for a Connecticut resident who filed the DD-214 with the town clerk by September 30 and served at least 90 days in a period of war. A 100 percent disabled veteran need not meet the 90-day test. Disability exemptions above the basic one follow the rating, and rise the assessment year after the veteran turns 65. For a veteran rated 100 percent the page gives an income limit of $18,000 single and $21,000 married, above which only the base benefit applies. Those are the subsection (a) limits of 12-81g. OLR’s 2023 survey listed Southington among the towns that offer the subsection (b) option, which would give three times the base under limits of $21,000 and $24,000. Ask the assessor which applies. From the October 1, 2024 grand list a veteran with a 100 percent permanent and total rating has the dwelling exempt under 12-81(83), and from the 2025 grand list up to two acres with it, the page says.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
