Somers Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Somers’ assessor takes the wartime discharge directly at the office by September 30 and the income-driven additional exemption February 1 to October 1; OLR’s 2023 survey records a $5,000 local wartime additional exemption at the state income limit and the 12-81g(b) option.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Somers.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s page says a veteran of any war period declared in the Connecticut General Statutes may be entitled to an exemption and must provide an original or certified copy of the honorable discharge or similar document to the Assessor’s Office, filing deadline September 30 - Somers takes the proof at the office rather than recording it with the clerk. The additional veteran’s exemption “has certain income requirements” and is filed February 1st through October 1st. The page also links a local tax relief application and a state tax relief application and a 100% disabled tax exemption notice. OLR’s 2023 survey lists Somers among the towns offering the 12-81f(a) wartime additional exemption, at $5,000, with income limits at OPM’s state amount, the 12-81f(b) higher amount for veterans and 30-year retirees, and the 12-81g(b) option, three times the 12-81(20) exemption for a veteran rated 100 percent with income of $21,000 single or $24,000 married. The town’s code is on eCode360 (SO1554), which stayed behind its Cloudflare challenge (dubiousenvelope/vettoc issue 168), so no adoption could be read; ask the assessor.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
