Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The officer. Sioux County's Veterans Services page lists Spike Jordan, phone 308-432-0119, [email protected], mail PO Box 158, Harrison, NE 69346 - Dawes County's Veterans Service Officer, Robert (Spike) Jordan, whose office in Chadron serves Sioux County under an interlocal agreement (see the Dawes County office entry, which also serves Sioux County). The State's directory, updated October 26, 2026, puts him at the Sioux County courthouse, 325 Main Street, Harrison, by appointment. Where the money is. Sioux County's filed 2025-2026 budget lists no veterans aid fund among its funds and no aid line in its general budget; its Veterans Service Officer budget (0100-803) pays $10,620.00 of contract services to Dawes County and $300.00 for grave markers and flags. Under the agreement Dawes County approved, Sioux County also pays for all grave markers in the Sioux County Cemetery. The county's Relief fund (1500), with $1,750.00 budgeted for emergency relief, is not a veterans fund. Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets a county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county. Sioux County keeps no county money for it; ask Mr. Jordan, 308-432-0119, about the State's Nebraska Veterans' Aid fund and any county help. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion. The Veterans Service Officer records a veteran's DD-214 brought to the office, the County Clerk's page says (see the Nebraska entry on the Discharge Record).
