Simsbury Local Option Veterans’ Exemption

Simsbury’s property tax relief pamphlet gives a $1,500 basic veterans’ exemption, doubles it for income up to $56,500 married or $46,300 single, and takes a local option of 10 percent of assessment for income up to $81,500 married or $71,300 single.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Simsbury.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s pamphlet, revised January 12, 2026, requires 90 days of service in a period of war or recognized conflict, residency on the October 1 assessment date and a DD-214 filed with the town clerk by September 30, and sets the basic veterans’ exemption at $1,500. The statutory wartime exemption is $1,000 under 12-81(19); Simsbury’s printed figure is that amount raised by the revaluation increases of 12-62g. A veteran rated 100 percent disabled need not meet the 90-day requirement, and files the VA rating slip with the assessor. For income-qualified veterans the pamphlet gives the state additional exemption of 12-81g(a), which doubles the basic assessment exemption, for 2026 grand list income up to $56,500 married or $46,300 single, and a veteran VA rates 100 percent disabled qualifies at $18,000 single or $21,000 married counting adjusted gross income only. Its local option, the 12-81f additional exemption, is 10 percent of the assessment for 2026 grand list income up to $81,500 married or $71,300 single, the state limit plus $25,000. Both are applied for February 1 to October 1 and renewed every two years. Simsbury’s code is on eCode360, which stayed behind its Cloudflare challenge (dubiousenvelope/vettoc issue 168), and the town did not answer OLR’s 2023 survey. Ask the assessor which other options Simsbury has adopted.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
