Shiawassee County's Department of Veteran Services, at the SGT Clay W. Reeves Veteran Center, 1042 N. Shiawassee Street, Corunna, has accredited service officers for VA claims and appeals, records and health care enrolment, runs the county's relief funds, free rides to VA appointments and a house cleaning programme, paid by a voted veterans millage; 989-743-2231.

"Shiawassee County Department of Veteran Services was created by the Board of Commissioners in 2009 under Public Act 192 of 1953." It serves "approximately 4,742 Veterans residing in Shiawassee County".
What it does. Help "navigating the claims filing process with the Federal Government for injuries or illness", case management, appeals, military and medical records and DD-214s, compensation and pension, Aid and Attendance, survivors' pension, VA, CHAMPVA and TRICARE enrolment and vocational rehabilitation; "Filing and processing of Shiawassee County and Federal burial allowance claims"; "Financial assistance for indigent Veterans and their dependents for anything from food and gas to home repairs" (the next entry); free transportation to VA medical appointments; help with job placement; and "Assist Veterans with Housecleaning", for which the department posts a house cleaning application.
The millage. Voters approved a Veteran Services Program millage of 0.20 mill in 2014 and renewed it in 2018; in 2022 they approved it for 2023 through 2028 at 0.1956 mill. The Board has levied a further 1/20 of a mill since 2014 for the Veterans Relief Fund under Public Act 214 of 1899.
