The rides. The Sheridan County Veterans Service Office drives veterans to medical appointments: Mr. Hotz told the Board on March 10, 2026 that the office had provided 67 medical transports in the past six months. The office budget pays part-time drivers ($6,768.75 in 2024-2025, $10,500.00 budgeted for 2025-2026), and the office manager schedules them. The county posts no rider rules, destinations or booking form; call the office, (308) 327-5658. The grant. The 2025-2026 budget added to the county's Veterans Aid Fund (fund 1900) a federal grant line labelled "Federal Grants - Other HRVT" of $25,000.00, with a matching $25,000.00 "Reimbursement to County - HRVT" on the spending side. The Treasurer's statements show the grant paying $14,527.50 in September 2025, $7,169.18 in November 2025 and $15,235.50 in February 2026, $36,932.18 for the year, and $5,709.50 more in July 2026. The county's records do not spell out the grant's name; the letters match the VA's grants for transportation of veterans in highly rural areas. The general public can also ride Panhandle Transit's demand-response and intercity buses, (308) 761-8747, which serve all of Sheridan County; that service is not limited to veterans.
