Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The Sheridan County Veterans Service Office is in the Courthouse Annex, 111 North Main Street, Rushville, NE 69360 (mailing address PO Box 527), phone (308) 327-5658, [email protected]. The Veterans Service Officer is Jason Hotz, with secretary Linda Strasburger, per the State's directory (updated October 26, 2026), which gives hours of Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed noon to 1. The county's page also describes the office manager's job: greeting veterans and scheduling appointments, keeping the books, scheduling drivers for veteran transport and helping the officer process emergency aid. What the county lists. The Veteran Benefits page names county veterans aid (see that entry); a bronze grave flag holder reflecting the veteran's wartime era, inventoried each year and replaced when damaged; registration of DD-214s, after which the veteran "may call us from any where in the world and we will provide them with a 'certified copy'"; homestead help, the office obtaining each year a VA letter establishing eligible veterans and widows for the Assessor; grave registration, with a card sent to the State and a Presidential Memorial Certificate for the family of every deceased county veteran; and benefits counselling. The Clerk records a DD-214 brought to the office. The year. Mr. Hotz told the Board on March 10, 2026 that the office had started 114 new claims in the past twelve months and provided 67 medical transports in the past six (see the transportation entry), and briefed it on the new motor vehicle tax exemption for disabled veterans, which is the State's (see the Nebraska entry); on September 15, 2026 he reported that 152 Sheridan County veterans are now connected to VA services. The Board joined the State department's VetraSpec claims database by a two-year memorandum of understanding on November 12, 2025, and on July 14, 2026 re-appointed Kris Pyle as the Veteran Service Board's chairman for a year and Dean Witt to the board for five years. The money. The office's 2025-2026 budget (803 Veterans Service) is $165,485.67, against $145,560.25 spent in 2024-2025: the officer ($55,432.00), the office's clerical salary, $10,500.00 for part-time drivers, and $3,000.00 for grave markers and flags ($1,558.62 spent in 2024-2025).
