Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Shelton’s assessor page gives veterans who served in wartime, or who have a disability rating from the Veterans’ Administration, the veteran’s exemption off the assessment of their property, on an honorable discharge filed with the City/Town Clerk by September 30. Applications with the Assessor’s Office run from February 1 to October 1. The page prints no amounts or income limits. The city’s web site moved from www.cityofshelton.org, which now serves an Outlook login, to www.shelton-ct.gov. Code § 15-2, adopted as Ord. No. 484 on October 10, 1985, has the Board of Aldermen approve the additional exemption of $1,000 for veterans of limited income as set forth in C.G.S. 12-81f, with any future increase requiring further board approval. As 12-81f(c) grants the additional exemption to a veteran’s surviving spouse entitled under 12-81(22), a widow or widower qualifying under that subdivision receives the $1,000 exemption under the section. Code § 15-2.1, adopted as Ord. No. 615 on March 14, 1991 under 12-81h, exempts in full one motor vehicle specially equipped for a veteran’s disability, applied for annually by the assessment date. OLR’s 2023 survey records Shelton as offering the 12-81kk primary-residence exemption, 10 percent of the assessed value of the dwelling of a veteran with federal adjusted gross income of $50,100 or less. Shelton’s code, current through October 2024, carries no such section, and the assessor page does not mention it. Ask the assessor.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
