Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Shawnee County Veterans Treatment Court is divided into three tracks: a diversion track, a post-imprisonment supervision track, and a probation violator track. All tracks. A qualifying veteran must have served in the armed forces of the United States; must be eligible to receive benefits from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; must be a resident of Shawnee County; and must have a clinical, mental health or traumatic brain injury need as determined by a verified assessment. Diversion track. The veteran must meet the requirements of the Shawnee County District Attorney Veterans Treatment Court Diversion Program Policy, available in the DA's office and on the county's site. Post-imprisonment supervision and probation violator tracks. A veteran must not have been convicted of off-grid offenses, sex offenses, drug felonies of levels 1 to 4, any crime resulting in serious bodily harm or death, any crime arising out of a drive-by shooting, or any offense requiring interstate compact supervision; convictions of the listed felonies can be admitted case by case with the consent of the prosecution. The probation violator track additionally requires that the violation be substance abuse, traumatic brain injury or mental health related, with new-law violations eligible only case by case with prosecutorial consent. Both tracks require the veteran to be deemed high risk on a verified criminogenic risk assessment: a score of 22 or higher on the WRNA, 20 or higher on the LS/CMI, or 24 or higher on the LSIR. Kansas Fights Addiction funding. A separate funded lane serves veterans who are not eligible to receive Veterans Health Administration benefits, for substance use disorders, recovery support and mental health issues in conjunction with substance abuse disorders; the county notes the funding was specifically requested for this population.
