The commission. The county's committee page: "Veterans Service Commission - Emergency Relief", citizen members "Marshall Giese (Chair), Dennis Bohm, and Richard Kucksdorf". It meets at 8:00 a.m. at the Shawano Cafe (agendas posted at the Courthouse, Human Services, the library and on CivicWeb); its agendas of October 16 and December 4, 2025 and March 5 and September 10, 2026 carry the review and approval of the fund's payment vouchers. The renaming and the policy. The commission's June 11, 2026 minutes: "Zuehlsdorf briefed the new policy update for the Commission which was provided to all members. Wisconsin Statute 45.81 - County Veterans Service Commission and Wisconsin Statute 45.86 - County Tax for Needy Veterans excerpts were provided to all members." The policy was approved and signed, and the commission "also updated Soldiers and Sailors Fund to Veterans Emergency Fund". The Board of Health/Veterans Service Committee was told on June 8, 2026 that "the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Commission is actually the Shawano County Veterans Service Commission under Wisconsin Statute 45.81. It will be referred to by that title going forward to be more inclusive of all military branches." Applications reviewed in closed session that day: one completed (May 4, 2026), one pending. The December 4, 2025 agenda also carried the American Legion Auxiliary's veterans and military emergency assistance grant (up to $1,500, once in a lifetime, sponsored by a veterans benefit representative). The rules. The new policy's limits and eligibility rules are not posted; the State's sections 45.81 and 45.86 set the commission's duty to aid needy veterans and their families (the Wisconsin entries). Apply through the Veterans Service Office, (715) 526-9183.
