Sharon Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Sharon’s assessors post a clause 22 requirements letter with no amount and no acceptance named, so this entry gives the statute’s; its Veterans Service Office is the town’s own chapter 115 administrator, and its Elder Services work-off takes veterans of any age for up to $2,000 a year.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Sharon.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Sharon grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Anne M. Carney the chair (term expires at the annual town election 2029), Ellen Wolfson Abelson (2028) and Evan B. Einstein (2027), with Jeffery Funk the Administrative Assessor (781-784-1500, extension 1150), at Town Hall, 90 South Main Street (781-784-1500, extension 1207), and says the board reviews and acts on personal exemptions for real estate, "(Elderly, Veteran, Blind, Surviving Spouse)". The Personal Exemption Information page posts a "VETERANS 22 REQ LETTER FY26" covering clauses 22, 22A through 22E and 22F: the six months’ domicile before service or two consecutive years before filing, the 10 per cent disability, the Purple Heart and Gold Star parents, the losses of 22A to 22C, the surviving spouses of 22D, the 100 per cent rating of 22E and paraplegia of 22F - requirements only, with no amount of the town’s own and no acceptance named, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Veterans Service Office provides "assistance, guidance and advocacy for Sharon veterans and their families", independent of the VA, and names Paul Bergeron the Veterans Agent (781-784-1500, extension 1180) and Moureen Nyakahuma the Veterans Confidential Assistant, at 90 South Main Street, by appointment - the office the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists ([email protected]); its pages post the chapter 115 statute and the town’s Hometown Hero Veteran Banner Project, "a collaboration between the Town of Sharon and local veteran organizations". The Council on Aging’s Property Tax Work-Off Abatement Program takes applicants "age 65 or older, or a veteran of any age (including qualifying spouses)" at $15.00 an hour for up to $2,000 or $1,000 a year depending on income, applications May 1 to June 1 for the fiscal 2027 program - the sections 5K and 5N work-off it is, though the page names neither. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Sharon Veterans Service Office: Paul Bergeron, Veterans Agent. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
