Sharon Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Sharon’s exemptions page describes the wartime, additional and dwelling programs without printing a veteran amount, and OLR’s survey recorded a $20,000 wartime option at the state’s income limits.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Sharon.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s Exemptions page requires the DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk before October 1 for the basic veteran’s exemption, and a letter from the Veterans Administration showing the disability rating for the disabled veteran’s exemption, a one-time filing unless the rating changes. No amounts are printed. For the additional veterans’ exemption the page says the filing period is February 1 through October 1 for that October 1 grand list, that the veteran “must meet the income requirement for the year you are applying,” and that proof of all income for the preceding calendar year must be provided; a veteran rated 100 percent disabled through the VA does not count social security. The town’s tax-credit page prints the qualifying income limits of $46,300 for an unmarried person and $56,500 for a married couple and says “veterans who are receiving an exemption under 12-81 of the CT General Statutes may also be eligible for an additional exemption, provided the same income requirements are met.” The page also carries the dwelling exemption for a veteran with a service-connected permanent and total rating: the DD-214 on file with the Town Clerk and proof of the rating to the assessor by March 31, covering the veteran’s primary-residence dwelling or one motor vehicle. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Sharon as offering the 12-81f(a) wartime additional exemption at $20,000 with the state’s income limits ($49,100 married and $40,300 single for that year). The town’s former sharonct.org now serves a content-farm page; the town’s site is sharonct.gov.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
