How the county funds it. The 2026-2027 proposed budget (dated August 17, 2026, the day of the Court's last budget workshop) has no veterans department among its General Fund departments - county judge, county and district clerk, treasurer, tax office, courts, justice of the peace, constable, sheriff, courthouse, information technology, elections, library, extension agent, non-departmental expense and the road precincts. A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entry). TexVet.
