Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Seekonk grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ Fiscal Year 2027 Statutory Exemptions eligibility guide (revised June 30, 2026; the criteria voted June 17, 2026) prints $845.43 under clause 22 (a 10 percent or greater VA disability, a Purple Heart, a Gold Star parent or a qualified veteran’s spouse or surviving spouse), $1,585.18 under 22A, $2,641.96 under 22B, $3,170.35 under 22C and $2,113.57 under 22E, each plus the community preservation exemption it carries, and full exemption under 22D and 22F. Each is the statutory amount raised by the Department of Revenue’s clause 22I adjustments for fiscal 2026 and 2027 (2.9 and 2.7 percent) and then doubled; the $1,585.18 printed under 22A sits a cent above its compounded figure. The same guide records the town’s adoptions: clause 22I, adopted May 12, 2025, raising the exemption by each year’s cost-of-living percentage (the fiscal 2027 COLA 2.7 percent), and clause 22J, adopted the same day at 100 percent for fiscal years beginning on or after July 1, 2025, within the section’s own limit that the bill not fall below 10 percent of assessed value. The guide leaves 37A at its statute’s $500, which clause 22J alone produces. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Seekonk Veterans Council: James LaFlame, Veterans Service Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
