Scotts Bluff County: Late Disabled Veteran Vehicle Exemption Requests Approved by the Board

When a Scotts Bluff County veteran misses the filing window for the State’s new disabled veteran motor vehicle tax and fee exemption, the Treasurer brings a waiver to the Board of Commissioners; the Board approved nine veterans’ exemptions and waivers between April 20 and July 20, 2026, one on the Veterans Service Officer’s recommendation.

Also called: motor vehicle tax exemption, LB650, disabled veteran, waiver, late filing, Treasurer, Heather Hauschild, Scottsbluff, Gering, Mitchell, Terrytown, Minatare, Morrill, Lyman.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's: since January 1, 2026 a disabled or blind veteran may have the motor vehicle tax and fee on one vehicle exempted, applying within 30 days of purchase or before the end of the renewal month (see the Nebraska entry). A request outside that window waits for the next renewal under the State's own rules. Scotts Bluff County's Board has granted relief case by case instead. Under the Treasurer's agenda heading (Treasurer Heather Hauschild), the Board approved a veteran vehicle exemption on April 20, 2026; a veteran vehicle exemption waiver on May 18; one exemption on June 1, "as recommended by Matt Meyers, Veteran Services"; two waivers on June 15; two on June 29; and two on July 20 - nine veterans in all. Cass County's Board adopted a formal appeal route for the same late requests in September 2026 (see that county's entry). A Scotts Bluff County veteran who missed the window can ask the Veterans Service Office, (308) 436-6643, or the Treasurer about a waiver; the veteran must already qualify for the State exemption and be in the State's Military & Veteran Registry.
