Scott County Veterans Service Van to the VA Medical Center
Scott County's Veterans Service runs a free van with a wheelchair lift to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and the Federal Building at Fort Snelling, Monday to Thursday by appointment, for veterans and dependents who cannot drive themselves or find a ride; book at least 24 hours ahead on 612-289-1418.
Also called: veterans van, transportation, VA Medical Center, Minneapolis VAMC, Fort Snelling, ride, wheelchair lift, Shakopee, Hop Scott.
This is the county's own service. Its transportation policy: "Transportation may be provided only to the V.A. Medical Centers and/or Federal Building at Fort Snelling for veterans or dependents of veterans who are unable to drive themselves or find someone to take them." "This service is provided free of charge and is authorized by the Scott County Board of Commissioners."
When. "The van goes to the V.A. Medical Center on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays per scheduled appointments. Please schedule your appointments for one of those days -- and preferably before 2:30 PM." The office asks for at least 24 hours' notice; "Call 612-289-1418 to schedule a ride." The Veterans Service Office sets the pickup points.
Rules. First-time riders give a copy of their DD-214 and their Social Security number; every rider brings a picture ID and any appointment letter. A rider who must stay in a wheelchair throughout needs an aide or caregiver along, and a spouse may ride if there is room and the spouse is ambulatory.
Behind it. The county's 2026 budget papers (County Board workshop of October 28, 2025) record the veterans' bus moving into the Mobility Management fleet in 2025, with Hop Scott volunteer drivers helping with veterans' rides.
